Pope Benedict encourages priests to blog!

The words that surround the main dome of St. Peter's Basilica relay the words that Christ said to Simon Peter when he gave him the "keys to the kingdom". "And I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it." (Matthew 16:18)

We Catholics believe that the Pope is the successor to St. Peter - the Vicar of Christ on earth. Although he does not always speak "Ex Cathedra" ("from the chair" which would mean that his teaching is infallible), we do take what he says very seriously.

Recently, Pope Benedict XVI issued a proclamation challenging priests "to proclaim the Gospel by employing the latest generation of audiovisual resources (images, videos, animated features, blogs, websites) which, alongside traditional means, can open up broad new vistas for dialogue, evangelization and catechesis."

This is not a new area for the Holy Father. Just last year he joined the you tube generation and began a you tube channel: http://www.youtube.com/vatican. He also used text messaging to reach hundreds of thousand of youth at Youth World Day 2008 in Sydney.

Although my time has been extremely limited these days, and I have missed many days of posting on Monastery Daily Photo, I am deeply encouraged by the Holy Father's support of my blogging. I hope, in the very near future, to be able to return to regular posting. Thanks for sticking with me.

Viva Papa Benedicto!

I've missed you. I hope the schedule eases up soon, or that the blog finds a good place in it --and you know who I thought of first when I heard this news last week!
LOL

How awesome is that! You go, Pope!

I have missed your posts, too, although I had only found your blog recently.

You really never know how any of your words affect the world.

My mom had a wall hanging that said "May my words today be tender for tomorrow I may have to eat them."

Father Adam, I almost emailed you to see if you were okay - I did worry in your quietness. I'm glad that the Pope is encouraging so many electronic communication forms. Your blog - and thoughts - reach us in a way that we wouldn't be reached otherwise by you!

Hoping there is more from you!

Wahoo FA!! I'm so glad to hear that. You have been missed. I do hope all is well.

I saw your cat video you sent me again. I crack up every time I see it. Thanks for the laugh.

Yay! I've been asking about you on the blogosphere. Our town just proclaimed a priest of the year. I have a photo of him holding his precious pet dogs. However, I won't post them unless he approves. WWPBD? (What would Pope Benedict do)?

An another note, last week, I spent a lot of time covering the opening of the International Civil Rights Museum and Center in Greensboro. It will be of interest to you.

Finally, my friend Alice Moore died last week. Please say a prayer for her. Sometimes when people die, you just KNOW they are gone. For some reason, with Alice, it just seems like she hasn't called or commented on GDP.

Glad you are well and just busy!

There you are! Welcome back!

I hope il Papa was speaking ex cathedra when he praised the merit of blogging.

This is a great post. Thanks for embedding the video. It shows what a long way we have come in communications. My knowledge of and appreciation of the Catholic Church has grown so much over the last decade, just because now I am able to see more of the momentous happenings in Rome.

I said a prayer of thanksgiving for you and your ministry/vocation yesterday, on the World Day for Consecrated Life.
God bless you and give you time enough to blog. :)
Shalom Father Adam!

I was wundering what it was gonna take to get you to put up another blog post!

It's good to know there are still some priests who follow the Pope.

Made me smile when I first read that news. Of course, I thought of you immediately. A couple of priest friends post their homilies and reflections, but in Facebook. Which is useless outside of their circle of friends. Ah well.

My husband's trying to get a group of Theology professors from our university to start a group blog. Catholic, and specifically Filipino Catholic, teaching but from the point of view of lay partners. Do you think it makes sense?

Glad to see a fresh blog post from you. Miss your daily blogs.

Do keep the Atlantic states in your prayers. We surely are getting hit hard this winter with snow, ice and white out blizzards.
