View from the Retreat House

"I lift my eyes to the mountains, from where shall come my help."
Psalm 121

My new home sits in the shadow of the San Bernardino Mountains. This time of year the mountain peaks are usually covered in snow. However, it has been in the mid-70's all week long. Therefore, very little snow. This photo shows the view from the plaza of the Retreat House where our retreatants can sit, relax and contemplate the beauty of creation. Our retreats are usually silent experiences. Silence? Because it is in the silence of the heart that we cultivate the possibility of hearing the voice of God.

Note: If you enlarge the picture you'll get a sneak preview on part of our orange groves.

I say this tongue-in-cheek, but somehow it would be much easier to contemplate the beauty of creation there than from where we sit among flat land and corn fields! Seriously, beauty can be found everywhere, I just like mine with mountains in it! =)

So now you look up to the mountains instead of down from them?
Snow, wow!

Our own hill is surrounded by higher hills and I often look up and pray that Psalm you quote here. I hope all the help you need will come.

Do you have enough hands there to pick all those oranges and avocados?
Need any volunteers?

Our hills in Greensboro are hardly noticeable so your view is a real treat. Glad you are back to blogging and that you are mostly settled. Keep the photos and inspiration coming!!!

Stop on by for a Catholic Sacred Sunday today.

P.S. I see you had to change the title of your blog too.

Merry New Yrs to you as well, FA!
The new monastery doesn't seem as isolated from the community as the prior one.

Your new home is beautiful. No doubt, much contemplation can take place in such a setting.

Did I say "Welcome (back) to SoCal?" Welcome. The orange trees with the view of the mountains are such a perfect description of the SoCal winter.

As I suspected, the view is magnificent! It would be wonderful to have a silent retreat here.

B-E-A-UTIFUL!!

Ya know, you are so right about silence. I went hunting with my dad one year and as I sat by myself under a Mesquite tree I was wondering if I should marry this guy I was dating. As the day wore on I felt God telling me that it was not a good idea and I am so very glad I was in tune with Him that day. There have been many times like that, on the horses or driving that God has talked to me.
I hope all is well. God bless you!
